Perhaps the database was corrupt before you backed it up? Can you run
DBCC CHECKDB on the source database, and back it up again? Are you using
SQL Server native backup commands to do this or an external component
such as Litespeed? Very occasionally, external components can corrupt a
backup file.
It sounds like the database was corrupt before you backed it up, and
then it can't restore it.

MS SQL Server 2005 Express Edition installation problem - Help!
During installation, I get a warning message that the hardware doesn't meet minimum requirement. But I'm running it on a laptop with 30 gigs of free space and running Windows XP home edition.
When I click on install anyway, I end up getting an error message that I need a "sqlncli.msi" file that can't be found.
Could it be because I have both 2.0 NET and 3.0 NET installed?

What Edition of SQL Server 2005 are you attempting to install?
As you can see from the chart at this reference, only Developers' Edition and SQL Server Express will install on XP Home -and only if XP Home is Service Pack 2 (SP2).

|||I tried to download the sqlncli.msi file (second link), but got an error message saying that it can't be read?!?
Not really sure what to look for in the first link. In your opinion, what tends to be the usual culprit? I have a Toshiba Tecra from late 2005 and I'm running IE7.

MS SQL Server 2005 - "Copy Database" from v8 to v9
Hi dear devs, admins or users!
Two weeks ago I had a problem with transfering databases from v8 to v9, I placed the question here (original message attached), but I received not the answer which I need. I try to transfer databases with the CDW ("Copy Database Wizard"), which should run through 5 action steps. The process stops after the 'action 2', the step "Create Package" failed allways. The error message which I receive is "Library not registered". I was very surprised, because two weeks ago the process stoped after the action 4 (4/5) while the step "Execute SQL Server Agent Job". I changed nothing on my system or databases. The only thing I can remember is the "Microsoft Update" downloaded and installed a new patch, but it wasn't a SQL Server 2005 update or something with databases.
I have now two questions. What means the error "Library not registered" while the CDW process and what could be the reason for the error in 'action 5' "Execute SQL Server Agent Job" while the CDW process? **(CDW = "Copy Database Wizard")

I have following problem with the "SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition". I am in a small network and try to copy a database from a version 8.0 to a version 9.0 "SQL Server" (2 computers). I use the "Copy Database Wizard" and the process did 4 from 5 actions correctly, the last action with the name "Execute SQL Server Agent Job" fails allways. My "SQL Server Agent" process is started and runs well. In real I don't need the "SQL Server Agent" in any way in my database, so I don't understand why this process generates this error. I try to copy this old "Portal" "ASP.NET 1.1" database to my new "SQL Server 2005". Can someone help me?

Here is the thread we know SQL Server so we gave you two ways that works, Copy database wizard is one of those wizards it is there but most experienced people don't use it. I think it is failing because it cannot convert TDS(tabular data stream) 80 to 90 2000 to 2005, the problem is you don't need TDS to move a database. Detach and Attach and Backup and Restore wizard don't have the problem.

I remember very well that you answered my first answer yet, but I am someone who wants know things very exactly and when something doesn't work, I want allways know the reason. I thought my SQL Server 2005 is not configured well or something is missing, and thats why I asked a second time about the "Copy Database Wizard". Now that you told me that some problems exist with the CDW, I will try the Backup solution for the transfer from v8 to v9 of course. I am sorry, that I didn't that immediately after your first answer (2 weeks ago), but like I said I thought I configured something wrong and wanted know it very exactly.

Replace <database> with the database that contains the table you want,
and the <owner/schema> with the owner of the table - generally dbo.
Example:

MS SQL connection could not be established

It seems that I have done something really stupid or something went
boonkers. I was restoring a DB whn I got a message that the log file
could not be restored because it was XXXXXX??. This left my DB greyed
out and with a (loading) sign. I tried to detach and then re-attech the
DB and all hell broke loose. Now I cannot connect to any of my DB's. The
message I get is "a connection could not be established on sqlsrvr .
Cannot open users default db. Login failed."
I cannot see any of db under that regitration and the connection
continues to fail. I am drawing a total blank as to why and how to
correct with the exception of unistalling MSSQL and re-installing the
server and then trying to establish a connection with my db's again.

osql -S MyServer -E -d master -Q"exec sp_defaultdb 'MyLogin', 'master'"
That should allow you to connect to the server as usual, and then you
can try restoring your database again - if you still have problems at
that point, it would be useful to see the exact error message.

ms sql 2005 delete record problem
I'm facing problem when delete a record in the ms sql 2005 .
The error message i got is stated below:
No rows were deleted
A problem occured attempting to delete row 1304.
Error: .Net Sql Clint Data Provider
Error Message: Possible index corruption detected. Run DBCC CHECKDB.
Correct the errors and atempt to delete the row again or press ESC to cancel the changes.
just certain record i can not delete and face this problem.
i detach the database and attached in the ms sql 2000, and select the same record to delete. there is no problem at all.
i wander is it ms sql 2005 bugs? can anyone tell me how to fix it .. how to to use the DBCC CHECKDB ?

first i set the database in single user mode.
ALTER DATABASE CPMLife SET SINGLE_USER WITH ROLLBACK IMMEDIATE
then i run the code below to fix the database.

|||You need to run the "drop statistic lvMthEnd._WA_Sys_Adj_Qty_0880433F" etc.Dropping the index is not the same as dropping the stats.
clustered, unique, primary key on PRIMARY means you've created a clustered index on the key which resides on the primary filegroup. You can lookup for "clustered" and "nonclustered" in book online for more info.

|||To create the clustered primary key, you can do something like this.alter table <tb_name>
add constraint <pk_name> primary key clustered (<col1, 2,...n>)
Now to your problem, something doesn't jive here. So, you deleted all indexes and statistics on the table and you still got the "index corruption" warning?
Perhaps, this is a case for MS support to closely work with you to track down the root cause.
ms sql 2005 delete record problem
I'm facing problem when delete a record in the ms sql 2005 .
The error message i got is stated below:
No rows were deleted
A problem occured attempting to delete row 1304.
Error: .Net Sql Clint Data Provider
Error Message: Possible index corruption detected. Run DBCC CHECKDB.
Correct the errors and atempt to delete the row again or press ESC to cancel the changes.
just certain record i can not delete and face this problem.
i detach the database and attached in the ms sql 2000, and select the same record to delete. there is no problem at all.
i wander is it ms sql 2005 bugs? can anyone tell me how to fix it .. how to to use the DBCC CHECKDB ?

first i set the database in single user mode.
ALTER DATABASE CPMLife SET SINGLE_USER WITH ROLLBACK IMMEDIATE
then i run the code below to fix the database.

|||You need to run the "drop statistic lvMthEnd._WA_Sys_Adj_Qty_0880433F" etc.Dropping the index is not the same as dropping the stats.
clustered, unique, primary key on PRIMARY means you've created a clustered index on the key which resides on the primary filegroup. You can lookup for "clustered" and "nonclustered" in book online for more info.

|||To create the clustered primary key, you can do something like this.alter table <tb_name>
add constraint <pk_name> primary key clustered (<col1, 2,...n>)
Now to your problem, something doesn't jive here. So, you deleted all indexes and statistics on the table and you still got the "index corruption" warning?
Perhaps, this is a case for MS support to closely work with you to track down the root cause.

MS Security patch MS03-031
I am trying to install ms03-031 (q815495) on a couple of our sql servers and
get the following error message:
'No sql server instances installed on this computer qualify for this Hotfix.
Check the version, language and
service pack requirement for this Hotfix', and the patch does not go on. I h
ave successfully put this fix
onto 35 other SQL Server 2000 SP3 servers.
The two I am getting the errors on are SQL Server 2000, sp3, and the languag
e is English. I cant seem to find
any log files to point me any Further. Would appreciate any suggestions, thi
ngs to check, etc. to find why we are getting

Im not sure what it is saying. We are running SQL Server 2000 SE, product ve
rsion 8.00.760(sp3).
First error seems to be a product code issue. Any suggestions on how to fix

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MS
SQLServer\MSSQLServer\CurrentVersion
\CSDVersionNumber
They should look like this:
CSDVersion (string) 8.00.761
CSDVersionNumber (dword) 300 (hex)
Update these keys as needed, and retry applying the Security Update.

MS Search
We have problem on our 2 original sql instances in a 4-node cluster.
Both the 2 old instances get one warning and one error message in the
event log.
This is the warning message for one of the instances:

Event ID:3055
Description:
The Gatherer property mapping file cannot be opened. Error: 80070002.
The default values are being used. You may have to copy the property
mapping file from the setup CD, or reinstall the application.

Here comes the error message for the same instance:

Description:
An error occured during the online operation for instance <SQL Server
Fulltext (Inst2)>: 80070002 - The system cannot find the file
specified

The service Microsoft Search is running, it's the cluster resource
that freak out. Since the full text is not used we removed the
resources from the clustergroups. without them it all works as it
should.
We have 2 new sql instances and they run the SQL Server Fulltext in
the cluster on whatewer node of the 4 witch the group is moved to. The
account used for sql is the same in all 4 instances and it's in the
administators group on all 4 nodes. The same goes fore the account
that runs the cluster.
What I would like to know is what file is the event message pointing
to? We can't se anything odd.
What is the default values?
If I copy it from the install CD, what directory?
If I reinstall, what will I have to reinstall?
In both cases. what about servicepack and hotfixes after?

I have checked out that article already.
Since we have 2 instances that work we compare them with each other.
We found no differenses. That's why I ask the questions about
reinstalling from the CD.
I.E how to do the part I quote, what about the reinstall from CD or
rebuild. Where can I find the steps, and if I take it from the CD what
about SP and hotfixes? I hope you can help me.
