ms sql server; linked server; jet; mdw

hello,
is there anybody here who can tell me how to create linked server in
microsoft sql server 2000 to microsoft access database
(microsoft.jet.oledb.4.0);
but access database have own workgroup file; i don't know where to place a
path to this mdw file while creating linked server;
and maybe i should do something else to successfully connect;
access database is divided into two parts (mdb files) - one with business
login and other with data;
in order to get access to data part i should connect to business login part;
i'll be thankful for any sugestions;

MS SQL Server, Linked Server to Pervasive

Hello all,

I am new to the forums and I have a question regarding linked servers. I am searching for the method of adding a Linked Server from MS SQL Server to a Pervasive database (specifically, the DEMODATA database that one gets after installing the Pervasive trial).

Specifically, I am looking for

1. What (if any) special drivers do I need?

2. What DSNs (if any) are necessary, besides DEMODATA with the Pervasive ODBC Engine Interface driver?

3. What parameters need I provide to sp_addlinkedserver?

Any input would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

RobRefer to books online for linked server and heterogeneous data sources topics.

MS SQL Server View Linked into MSAccess is not updateable recordset

Hi All,
How can I link a view into MS Access from MS Sql Server, that I can update as a tabble.
Thanks
LaszloInclude the columns from a defined UNIQUE INDEX on the table in your view.

-PatP|||And the table in SQL Server MUST have a primary key defined on it, or Access will not allow you to update it.|||But, the tables have primary keys, the relationships are correct, and the view is updateable on the server, but when I link it into Access then its not work anymore. Even single linked tables (including primary key) are updateable in Access just the views not work.
I found that the one solution is making query form the linked tables in Access.

MS SQL Server 2000 / MS Access - ODBC connection question

Hello all!

I have such question to all of you.
I have some tables linked from MS SQL Server 2000. Is time of processing
query
based on these linked tables from MS SQL Server 2000, faster or slower than
the time of processing the same query based on tables, which are not linked
but
imported to MS Access?

Can you answer this question?

Thank you in advance for posts
Marcin from Poland.No idea - it depends how big the tables are, what your queries look
like, how you execute your queries etc. If you're using stored
procedures, for example, then I would expect MSSQL to be faster, as all
the processing happens on the server, and it can use indexes, caching
etc. The best way to get an answer is simply to test it yourself.

MS SQL Linked Servers(Linking MySQL to MS SQL) Collation problem.

Hello,
I have a problem. I've linked MySql server to MsSql, in MySql I have a
table with Latvian data(character set is ucs2, ucs2_general_ci) and
the problem is that when I use openquery to read data from MySQL
server, some characters are not translated correctly! I receive
question symbols instead of Latvian special characters.
Maybe someone had this kind of problem with collation?P?vels Mihailovs (iceravenlv@.gmail.com) writes:

Since I don't work with MySQL myself, it's difficult to say what is
going on. But if MySQL has a notion of collation, and the collation is
ucs2_general_ci, it sounds like MySQL returns Unicode data. One would
expect that to arrive unscathed. What is you collation on the SQL
Server side?

The stored procedure sp_serveroption permits you to set options for
linked servers, and two of them relates to collations. You could play
around with these and see what happens. Please look in Books Online
for details.

on the MS SQL server i'm using Latvian_CI_AI, but some databases are
set to Latvian_CI_AS collation (sorry db admin can't explain why they
are using it).
I've tried using different collation option, I've checked all 1257 and
other collation, but result was almost the same. :/

MS SQL 2005 to Sybase via Linked server

I am able to see and correctly use a 32-bit Sybase OLEDB provider in
the SSIS designer on the server, however now i want to create a linked
server from SQl 2005 64-bit to Sybase. The problem is the OLEDB
Provider is not listed among the choices available for new linked
server. Also ODBC is not listed there either which i can use as a
substitute. I am aware of the fact that 32-bit DSN are managed
seperately from 64-bit.
The only choices listed are:
MS OLEDB Provider For SQL Server
MS OLEDB Provider For Analysis Services 9.0
OLEDB Provider For MS Directory Services
SQL Native Client
MS OLEDB Simple Provider
SQLXMLOLEDB
SQLXMLOLEDB 4.0
MS OLEDB Provider For Indexing Service
Is anyone of them any useful for connecting to Sybase.
maybe you should install sybase odbc driver or oledb driver.

If you noticed faraz does have the drivers installed because they
are useable via SSIS. I have the same issue. The 12.5.2 ASE
drivers are installed on the SQL Server but are not available via
the linked server dialog. Anyone know what could be causing this?
I've added the 32 bit ODBC entry in but having no luck getting the
linked server created.
