Whooops. You hit the MySQL Forum instead of the SQL Server Forum link. I see that you have found your way around the site in the past, so it must just be a simple mistake.|||

MS SQL Server 2005 Express Edition installation problem - Help!

During installation, I get a warning message that the hardware doesn't meet minimum requirement. But I'm running it on a laptop with 30 gigs of free space and running Windows XP home edition.

When I click on install anyway, I end up getting an error message that I need a "sqlncli.msi" file that can't be found.

Could it be because I have both 2.0 NET and 3.0 NET installed?

Thanks in advance for your help.

What Edition of SQL Server 2005 are you attempting to install?

As you can see from the chart at this reference, only Developers' Edition and SQL Server Express will install on XP Home -and only if XP Home is Service Pack 2 (SP2).

Thanks for your reply.

Express, and my laptop already has SP2.

Anything else I should check for?

If not, where exactly do I find "sqlncli.msi" and how do I run that? Would that solve the issue?

Thanks again.

Not really sure what to look for in the first link. In your opinion, what tends to be the usual culprit? I have a Toshiba Tecra from late 2005 and I'm running IE7.

Thanks. I've been up all night on this and am fried. I'll catch some shut eye and be back. Any additional insights/best guesses/advices would be greatly appreciated.

Ms SQL Server 2000 Installation Problem

Hi all

when installing MS SQL Server 2k i got these errors :

'This program is used internally by PackageFromTheWeb. It should no be executed directly.' (displays 2 times)

... and at the end of setup .. :

'Setup failed to configure the server. Refer to the server error logs and F:\WINNT\sqlstp.log for more information.'

i have also MSDE installed from visual studio.net

anyone got similar problem ?, anyone has an idea how to cope with this ?

thx in advance

in attachment i include sqlstp.logOriginally posted by krotuski
'This program is used internally by PackageFromTheWeb...
'Setup failed to configure the server. see F:\WINNT\sqlstp.log for more information.'
i have also MSDE installed from visual studio.net

I could only find these 2 error messages that relate to the 2nd error message of the issue you reported.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;305680

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;285100

As for the first Message, I couldn't find anything relating to PackageFromTheWeb. Hope the other 2 help.

As a suggestion, I would suggest doing a backup before attempting anything relating to data manipulation/upgrade.

I also noticed a couple of issues related to upgrading MSDE to SQL server 2000 so be prepared for problems and have your backups handy :)|||thx for answer, but none of these were the cause of a problem, anyway, thx for replying|||Did you determine what the problem was, I am getting the same error.
Thanks|||I have msde and SQL personal edition running simultaniously on my xp development box at home so I don't think there should be a problem running both. I use named instances. computername\msde and computername\sql2000

Thanks to your replys. I did the following steps:(1) I reinstalled the SQL2kServer and instead of "default" i entered my instance name "microa". (2) in the MSDE2000RelA i installed a new instance name like "micro9". (3) in the upgrading MSDE2000 Sp4 i entered setup /upgradesp sqlrun INSTANCENAME=micro9 /L*v C:\msdelog.log
All the above setup was completed, now i will run into SQL and will let you know the status. Thanks again for your valuable time.

MS SQL SERVER 2000 INSTALLATION

Hi,
I'm learning ASP.net and I just bought Visual Studio .net professional. I tried to install MS SQL server 2000 on my two computers. One OS is windows server 2003 standard edition and another is Win XP professional.

Both of them appeared SQL Server Upgrade Wizard "from server 6.5 upgrade to server 2000". I don't think I have server 6.5 installed and there is no server 6.5 application interface to run the server. What's the problem? I cannot run the Wizard successfully. Can I just ignore it?
Thank you,
William

Yes ignore it because there is no upgrade from SQL Server 6.5 to 2000, maybe you answered questions Windows asked you about SQL Server please don't answer them. Windows doesnot know any application installed in it, you know SQL Server so ignore any question that is not relevant to you and answer only when you are forced. Hope this helps.|||Thank you for your reply.
It comes another question.
I'm learning Accessing and Binding Data. It's a sample from chapter 9 of the book "MICROSOFT ASP.NET PROGRAMMING WITH MICROSOFT VISUAL BASIC .NET"
I got the error message as followings. I think it is the problem from set up the ASPNET account. I used SQL Enterprise Manager to set up. It looks fine. I feel not. But I don't know how to check it.
And then I tried to open a command prompt and typed in
oSql -S(local)\VSdotNET DE
And Icannot get a 1> prompt.
I got the message:
usage: osql [-U login id] [-P password]
[-S server] ..

Can you let me know where the problem is?

Thank you very much!

2/ Find the key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager"
3/ Rename the "PendingFileRenameOperations" value to "PendingFileRenameOperations2"

thx Jeffery for the quick reply, I was able to install the client components by following your instruction. thx for your help and good luck for 2006 :)

|||Really this was helped very much after changing the registry smoothly sql 2000 installed and working smoothly , thanks ton.|||I've checked that registry location and can't find the listed key in the path listed. Yet, the error persists. I'd love to solve this. If I do I'll edit this post if I can with the results.|||

hi Bob, when u go to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager", just click on the "Session Manager" folder on the left hand side treeview, then u will find "PendingFileRenameOperations"

|||

I understand what I'm looking for but it's not there at all. There is no 'PendingFileRenameOperations' folder under Session Manager.

I've even did a 'find' for 'PendingFileRenameOperations'. It returned an entry under HKLM\System\ControlSet001\Control\BackupRestore\KeysNotToRestore.

I checked another XP Pro machine I have an it doesn't have the key either.

Got any other clues?

Thanks for your help

|||'PendingFileRenameOperations' is not a folder, it's just a value name. when u left-click on the Session Manager folder on the left, there will be a list shown on the right, u can find the 'PendingFileRenameOperations' in the list.|||

I can't find it as a value in SessionManager or as a folder or anywhere other than in the location indicated above. It's just not there.

I can't seem to find it anywhere. So, I guess what I'm saying is that since it is not 'required' (which it seems to the case since renaming it allows the SQL server to install) and I don't have one, why is it still that I can't install?

|||

Well, that is only for the error "A previous program installation created pending file operations on the installation moachine. You must restart the computer before running setup".

Is that what you are seeing? If not, could you start a *different* thread describing the error that you are seeing?

|||I'm sorry. I checked the KB and these two errors seemed to be lumpped together. I'll start another thread.|||This was a fantastic help! I had this same problem and tried all sorts to solve.

This worked a treat! Cheers :)|||

Thank you, Thank you. This solved my problem. I'm so glad I found you and this posting on Microsoft TechNet. I wasn't even sure how to describe this problem, but am so thankful for your help.

Now, I can finish installing SQL Server and the upgrade Service Packs. Thanks again.

Gary

Hey I link this editor, Where can I get this beautiful forum message editorStick out tongue [:P] ?.

You do not need to uninstall the .NET version that came with SQL Server2005 April CTP. They are the same version. Actually, MSrecommends installing SQL Server 2005 first, then VS2005.
